This position will work .5 FTE as Migrant Parental Involvement Specialist and .5 FTE as Bilingual Secondary School-Family Liaison in Klamath County

 

 

Title:   Migrant Parental Involvement Specialist

 

Position Goals:

  1. To support districts and parents in coordinating Migrant Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) activities.
  2. To coordinate migrant parental involvement and education activities that support high student achievement.
  3. To ensure communication between parents, schools, and districts about migrant programs and activities.
  4. To assist with compliance regarding migrant state and/or federal parental involvement requirements;
  5. To provide information on services available to eligible students and families; conveying information regarding school and/or district activities and procedures; and referring families to other agencies as may be required.
  6. To provide leadership and training for migrant parent.

 

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Contacts parents (e.g. phone calls, home visits, etc.) for the purpose of communicating the meaning of the Migrant program and the need for parent involvement in program.
  2. Coordinates both district and regional Migrant PAC meetings (e.g. contacting parents, phone calls, fliers, room reservations, arranging for childcare, ordering food, etc.) for the purpose of encouraging parental support and involvement in the program.
  3. Informs parents and students of school rules (e.g. sick leave, absentees, suspension, etc.) for the purpose of providing better communications and/or direction.
  4. Maintains a variety of records and materials (e.g. number of PAC meetings, attendance, meeting minutes) for the purpose of providing required information and/or documentation.
  5. Participates in workshops, meetings, seminars, community teams, etc. for the purpose of receiving and/or presenting information related to migrant program.
  6. Coordinates workshops for parents, including trips to conferences.
  7. Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with SOESD employees, local education agency representatives and others contacted during the course of the workday.
  8. Follow established SOESD policies and procedures.
  9. Perform physical requirement unaided or with assistance of reasonable accommodations (see reverse).
  10. Perform other job related duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Minimum Prerequisites:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a field pertinent to youth development.
  2. Experience, which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability, required to perform the job.
  3. Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  4. Valid Oregon Driver’s license.

  2. Strong communication skills.
  3. Ability to word-process and operate standard office equipment
  4. Ability to deliver effective training
  5. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  6. Ability to work independently with students, parents, employers, and educators
  7. Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse backgrounds.

 

Any equivalent combination of experience, certification and training/education, deemed by the district, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of this job may be used as an alternative to this prerequisite.

 

Length of Position:  As determined by supervisor

 

Salary: Per classified bargaining agreement.

Title:   Bilingual Secondary School-Family Liaison

 

Position Goal: Works directly with students and their families to promote high school graduation and post secondary education and serves as a role model and mentor to students who are at risk of dropping out of school.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Recruit and register new participants into after school programs.
  2. Maintain up-to date documentation of student attendance and extra-curricular activities.
  3. Assist after school teachers during tutoring sessions.
  4. Co-facilitate senior seminars to help seniors with senior projects and college applications.
  5. Arrange transportation for students as necessary.
  6. Accompany students on field trips and college tours.
  7. Provide students with information about post high school education.
  8. Serve as a resource for families in need of social service referrals.
  9. Serve as a link between the school, the student, and the family.
  10. Regularly access district student information systems to track student progress.
